Botanicals & Essential Oils
What are Essential Oils? They are derived directly from stems, leaves, bark, or petals of plants and trees. They are extracted using various methods, resulting with the release of the oil (essential oil), which is then separated from the water (hydrosol).
Calendula (Calendula Officinalis)
Sharp, herbaceous aroma. Often called pot marigold, calendula is not in the marigold family, but is in the aster family. Calendula is an anti-inflammatory and anit-microbial; good for minor cuts and burns. Promotes healing by aiding clotting. Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiani) Woody, pine-like aroma. Has skin-soothing properties, used as an antispectic. Clary Sage (salvia sclaria) Sweet, nutty herbaceous aroma. Used to relieve tired, sore eyes and to combat general fatigue and to condition & lighten dark, thinning hair. Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) Sweet floral fragrant aroma, similar to a rose. Reportedly is an antiseptic and analgesic. Relieves stress, acne, burns, bruises, dermatitis, reduces inflammation, uplifts your mood, lessens fatigue and promotes emotional wellness. Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) Its light, clean scent often provides a sense of comfort. It is antibacterial and can help to heal wounds. When whole buds are used in soap, it has a gentle exfoliating property, or powdered, for an even gentler action. Lemon (Citrus limonum) Refreshing, uplifting, penetrating fragrance. Used for astringent properties and oily skin and rich in Vitamin C. Spruce (Picea mariana) Fresh scent, commonly used in soaps and lotions. Stated as good for wounds, ulcers and sores. Treats skin problems, such as boils, burns, skin inflammation, sores and wounds. |
Parsley (Petroselinum sativum)
Grassy, herbal aroma. Used against sore eyes, wounds, rheumatism and cystitis. Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) Strong penetrating sweet, musky and spicy fragrance. Uses include actions against acne, dandruff, dermatitis, eczema, sores, and wounds. Pine (pinuse sylvestris) Fresh woodsy fir aroma. Used to increase blood circulation and as a deodorant effect. Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) Fresh woodsy scent, similar to Pine. Removes excess oil from skin without causing excess dryness. It has regenerating and stimulating effects that help to rejuvenate skin and helps to restore elasticity and firmness. Rose (Rosa rubiginosa) Uplifting rich floral fragrance . Used for the fragrant bouquet and for the soothing properties to mind and skin. Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) Spicy, sharp, champhorous, slight balsamic scent. Used against many ailments such as acne, rashes, insect bites, burns, and sunburns. Thyme (Thymus Vulgaris) Pleasant and refreshing aroma. Thyme contains antioxidants that can help protect skin from premature aging.
